Change. It’s a word that can bring up a mix of feelings, right? Fear, uncertainty, maybe even a little resistance. I get it. I’ve been there, and honestly, I’m still navigating it. From those awkward middle school years to the shift into my 30s, change has been a constant companion.
I remember meticulously planning my career. Spreadsheets, timelines, the whole nine yards. I had this picture in my head: years at a stable job, debt paid off, then finally, the freedom to pursue my ‘dream life.’ A safe, predictable path. But life, as it often does, had other ideas. A seemingly small workplace incident became a catalyst, a push I didn’t expect. I quit, despite all my careful planning. Looking back, it felt like the universe was nudging me—or maybe shoving me—off course. It’s funny how often that happens, isn’t it? We cling to the comfortable, the familiar, even if it means sacrificing what truly lights us up.
My biggest struggle right now? Resisting change. It’s rooted in fear of stepping outside the lines drawn by society: the 9-to-5, the ladder climbing, the milestones. But deep down, I know that growth, purpose, and genuine joy lie just beyond that comfort zone.
Why is it so hard? I’ve realized it’s the stories we tell ourselves, the narratives ingrained in us by our ego and our fears. These aren’t the whispers of our hearts; they’re the echoes of a ‘fear-based system.’ A system that prioritizes control over authenticity.
We’re often afraid of our own potential, of what we might discover if we dare to step outside the box. That ‘comfort zone’ isn’t really comfortable; it’s a cage built from fear.
(A little reflection later…) I was thinking about how as babies and toddlers, we were fearless. We tried everything, listened to our own instincts, and trusted our hearts. But somewhere along the way, we started listening to the noise in our heads, the voices of society, and we lost that connection. Maybe change, even the uncomfortable kind, is the universe’s way of shaking us awake, of reminding us to reconnect with our intuition. It’s an invitation to rediscover that fearless child within us.
Let’s be gentle with ourselves as we navigate these shifts.
