A few weeks ago, my sister and I spent a leisurely afternoon shopping at the Glendale Americana. It had been a while since I’d shopped, especially in such a large and bustling place, and I couldn’t help but observe the crowd. For a good two or three hours, we simply strolled, taking our time, but I found myself looking beyond the racks and displays.
Watching the shoppers, the passersby, and especially the sales staff, I felt a deep sense of gratitude. It wasn’t just for my own few hours of stress-free downtime; it was for everyone. It struck me that people are genuinely trying their best right now—to survive, to find joy, and to put up a brave front to get through the day. The cashiers and store employees, in particular, seemed to be working so hard. I often try to make a point of giving a small compliment or making a bit of small talk to help a transaction feel more human and less rushed.
We stopped at one last store before heading out, and as we were checking out, the sales associate said, “You guys are beautiful.” My sister and I felt that compliment deeply, not just because of the words, but because it felt like a sincere exchange of positive energy. The associate, who was beautifully styled himself with striking makeup that enhanced his features, made the moment memorable. Giving others a compliment and choosing to uplift them seems harder than ever these days, and I was so grateful that nearly every interaction we had that day was filled with sincerity and warmth.
Those small, genuine moments truly inspired me. They made me want to focus on becoming a better version of myself, both inwardly and outwardly. I want to be someone who consistently spreads those same good intentions, positive energy, and warmth to others.
